Meet Jessica

Jessica Bauchum, the music director of By Design Ministry, is a woman of God committed to serve Him through her musical talents. Born to a father who is a church organist and a mother who is a pianist and choir director, it is no question that Jessica has a passion for musical excellence. She began her formal musical training from her grandmother, the late Doris Gumby on piano. She continued to study private clarinet lessons through high school, receiving a music scholarship at the University of Missouri. She received a degree in secondary education with an emphasis of instrumental music. She continued her musical studies at the University of North Texas and received a Master of Music Education degree in 2004. She is currently teaching music along with private piano and voice lessons in the Dallas area. Jessica recalls a memory from her childhood. " I remember sitting on the organ at church next to my father. He would sometimes mute the organ keys and let me play during service. At a very young age, maybe five or six, the first key I remember playing in is D-flat, the song, Hold Back the Night, chords and all." She is excited about what God is going to do with By Design Ministry and in her life.

Stephanie describes Jessica, " Jess is not only my sister, but she's my best friend. She's a musical genius and is one of the world's best kept secrets. God's light is truly shining in her life and she's a great gift to the Kingdom of God!

La Shai describes Jessica, "A woman of great wisdom and gifting. She plays with a purpose, she sings with a purpose, and she writes with a purpose. I have witnessed her vocal classes and have witnessed the excitement of learning about music from a couple of her students...she makes music theory exciting!!! She is truly helping to mold the next generation of music!!!

Stephanie was born and raised in Grandview, Missouri, where she grew up at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Her Father was the church organist and her Mother was the youth choir director. She began singing in the church youth choir at age 4 and started directing the youth and adult choirs at 15. She was born into music. Her parents saw the gift of music in her at an early age and began the investment then. She was very active in her school's marching band and concert band where she played the saxophone, bass drum and xylophones, and was a vocalist in her high school's concert and chamber choirs. Stephanie formed her own choir, Uplifted Ministries, at age 16, where they sang at various events in the Kansas City metro area. She was also a member of several groups; Powerful Weapons of Praise, Spiritual Reaction and Sounds of Glory. Stephanie attended the University of Central Missouri where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Music, with an emphasis in music technology. While in college, she became the director of the ABC Gospel Choir and was a praise and worship leader at First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg, Missouri. After graduation, she relocated to Dallas, Texas where she works with children.  She wants to aid them to grow and develop in God's Kingdom.  She believes in educating them and helping to provide a foundation.  She uses her passion for music to both educate and build confidence!

Jessica describes Stephanie as, "The Quiet Storm. She has some good stuff to say and when she does, she says it well; in such a way you can't help but receive it."

La Shai describes Stephanie as, "truly patient!. She has really shown me how to wait. And in those moments when I begin to get anxious, I know I can talk to her and get great advice. Stephanie's unwaivering faith is contagious.

How it All Began...

All three of these ladies come to Texas by way of Missouri: Jessica and Stephanie from Kansas City and La Shai from Columbia. Stephanie and La Shai are college friends who met and graduated from the University of Central Missouri and Jessica and Stephanie are sisters. Jessica later desired a master's degree in music education and received a hefty scholarship from the University of North Texas. After relocating to Dallas on her own, it wasn't long before her younger sister, Stephanie joined her in 2007. La Shai and her husband later moved to Dallas in 2007 after graduating and getting married. The news of their close proximity to the Bauchum's brought much excitement. Today, the Hamiltons and the Bauchums along with their friends, get together regularly for family dinners and celebrations. Gathering to sing was and still is something these ladies LOVE to do! After years of sharing their desires and passions, God brought their hearts together to explore and prepare for a group; one that would win souls through song.

Today, Stephanie, La Shai and Jessica desire to share their lifestyle of worship and experience and God's word to touch the lost, the broken and those that just need encouragement. You can find these ladies ministering at local churches and events in the Dallas Fort Worth area sharing their joy for God's word. By Design's original music will speak to your soul. They hope you will join them in prayer as the Holy Spirit begins to unlock the giftings inside each one of them. If you have an upcoming event, please feel free to contact By Design at bydesignministry@gmail.com
